Dominic Smith - Places - Pau

year abroad in pau

As part of my degree I have been spending academic year 2002-2003 in Pau, France. This page contains some photographs of the town, while my Year Abroad Diary will give you some idea of how I got on.

Firstly, a couple general views of Pau, its castle and train station (in the valley):

Next, the school I worked in, and some of the students:

Another view of the Galway and Australian Bar next door, and of the road to Drango's, our favourite tacky little nightclub.

And Le Donjon, a fine Pizza Restaurant, where the assistants had our big goodbye meal.

The other English (with a couple exceptions) school assistants and English teachers at Lacq, the nearby TotalFinaElf gas plant.

Whilst I lived in Pau, I was actively involved in the life of the local Anglican church. This photo is from the leaving service of Very Revd. Richard Eyres receiving his farewell present just after Easter. He can be seen in this photograph just underneath the hymn numbers, Happy retirement, Richard.

Finally, the view from my studio window on the day after the biggest snowfall of the year. Note the snow on the palm trees.
